Dirk Schilling is a guitarist and composer born and raised in Lübeck (Germany). He received early singing lessons with Lübecker Knabenkantorei, also on piano and trombone and finally on classical guitar. Since 2000 he is a lecturer at Jazzhausschule Cologne, where he teaches guitar, bass and electronic music. In cooperation with LAG NRW, he regularly conducted workshops, including Folkwang School in Essen. He is part of the Cologne/Hamburg music scene for over 30 years with bands such as "Motorsheep", "King Candy" and "Bandaloop".

As a guitarist, he played TV shows for international artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Joshua Kadison and Lisa Stansfield. He was member of German Krautrock legend "Hoelderlin" and is a sought-after composer/multi-instrumentalist for film and theater productions.

With his long-standing electronic project "Filmpalast" he released 5 albums in a wide variety of genres and played at Roskilde Festival. This was followed by extensive touring as singer-songwriter and freelance work as photographer. In recent years he has mainly devoted himself to his solo electric guitar concert "Concert for one Electric Guitar", which premiered in autumn 2019.

Between 2019 and 2022 he was a multiple scholarship holder of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the German Music Fund, GVL and GEMA. In cooperation with his colleagues Susanne Kubelka and Yoshie Shibahara, the music theater project "Eden" was implemented and premiered in 2021 as part of the Viktringen Music Forum. He performs with singer/actress Susanne Kubelka as "Humming Lights" or with "Bachmann Reloaded", where he pursues more experimental forms of cross-genre music, sound performances and light installations. With his latest formation Nečemer/Schilling DUO he combines jazz accordion and the modern sound world of an electric guitarist.
