From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DG Organic Basics ApS, commonly known as Organic Basics, is a Danish clothing company headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark[1]. Founded in 2015, it began as a mens’ underwear subscription service, and later expanded its product range to include underwear, activewear, and everyday essentials for men and women. The majority of its products are made with organic cotton, recycled nylon and TENCEL™ Lyocell. The brand holds certifications from the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) and the Organic Content Standard (OCS), and is a member of 1% for the Planet.

History

[edit]

Organic Basics was established in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2015 by four co-founders: Mads Fibiger, Alexander Christiansen, Christoffer Immanuel, and Mads Rasmussen[2]. The company initially focused on sustainable underwear alternatives, which were funded through a Kickstarter campaign that raised over $20,000. In 2017, the founders secured $1 million USD in funding from Nordic Eye, Bumble Ventures and Johan Uggla[3]. In 2019, they received a €2 million investment from the French consumer fund, Eutopia[2]. In November 2021, Organic Basics opened its first retail store on Pilestræde in central Copenhagen[4]. In July 2022, Organic Basics was acquired by Delta Galil Industries, Ltd., which owns other brands including 7 For All Mankind, Splendid, and Schiesser[5].

Products and Materials

[edit]

Organic Basics is certified by Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)[6], Global Recycled Standard (GRS) and Organic Content Standard (OCS)[7]. The company also sells PETA-Approved Vegan products and clothing made with LENZING™ branded fibers[8]. Organic Basics partners with the UN Climate Neutral Now initiative[9] and works with Made2Flow and One Carbon World to calculate and offset its carbon emissions[10]. Organic Basics publishes an annual Impact Report[11] for transparency. The company also shares its production volumes through The Or Foundation’s “Speak Volumes” campaign[12]. Organic Basics is a member of 1% for the Planet, an environmental organization whose members commit to donating 1% of their annual revenue to environmental non-profits[13]. The company’s annual Black Friday sale campaign also involves a donation campaign to charity partners[14].

Collaborations

[edit]

In September 2024, Organic Basics collaborated with actress Antonia Gentry, best known for her role in Netflix series Ginny & Georgia[15]. The partnership was featured by Fashionista, highlighting the actress’ interest in working with smaller, sustainability-oriented fashion brands[16].
