Early Life and Youth Career
[edit]Omar Sabbagh was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He began his football journey with the Calgary Villains from ages 6 to 14 (2008–2016), before moving to California, where he joined the prestigious Irvine Strikers from ages 14 to 17 (2016–2019). Sabbagh competed in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) with the Strikers. His strong performances during his youth career helped him transition to a professional football career.[1]
College Career
[edit]Sabbagh played for the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) from 2020 to 2023 in NCAA Division 1. Over his four-year college career, Sabbagh made a total of 22 appearances in NCAA fall league matches, scored 3 goals, and provided 1 assist. His performances earned him 1 Player of the Week and 1 Man of the Match award.[2]
In his freshman season, Sabbagh was named Big West Freshman of the Week, recognizing his outstanding contribution to UC San Diego’s success in the league.[3]
In addition to his fall league play, Sabbagh was also active in NCAA spring friendlies, making 20 appearances, starting in 9 matches, and contributing 5 goals and 1 assist.[4]
Club Career
[edit]- Capo FC (March 2024 – August 2024): In March 2024, Sabbagh signed with Capo FC, competing in the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA). During his time at Capo FC, he made 4 league appearances, scoring 1 goal. He was named Man of the Match once and earned a spot in the NISA Team of the Week.[5] He also played 1 match in the U.S. Open Cup.[6]
- Al-Ahli Amman (August 2024 – Present): In August 2024, Sabbagh completed a move to Al-Ahli Amman in Jordan. Since joining the club, he has made 5 appearances—3 in league play and 2 in Shield competitions.[7]
International Career
[edit]Sabbagh has been a member of the Lebanon U-23 national team since January 2023. He has made 10 appearances for the team, participating in significant tournaments and friendly matches. His contributions have included:
- 2 matches in the Asia Cup qualifiers
- 3 matches in the Pan Arab Games
- 2 international friendlies
- 2 regular friendlies
Sabbagh’s performances at the U-23 level have made him a key player for Lebanon’s youth setup, and his ability to perform under pressure has earned him recognition. With his strong play and leadership, he is expected to play a role in future senior team competitions as well.[8]

Playing Style
[edit]Sabbagh is primarily a midfielder, known for his tactical intelligence, creativity, and work rate. His ability to read the game and make decisive plays in the middle of the park makes him a valuable asset for both club and country. While his primary position is in midfield, Sabbagh has shown versatility by playing as a right-back, winger, and striker depending on the tactical needs of his team.[9]
