Nicholas Tamagna (born July 30, 1982) is an Italian-American countertenor known for his performances in baroque opera and contemporary opera.[1]

Professional career

Tamagna portrayed Ermano in Leonardo Vinci's Gismondo, re di Polonia on the Parnassus label, followed by an extensive concert tour.[2] His performance as Narciso in Handel's Agrippina at the Metropolitan Opera in March 2020, alongside renowned artists like Joyce DiDonato and Kate Lindsey, was a notable milestone, with the production being broadcast in cinemas worldwide.[3][4][5]

He also performed at the Händel Festival in Halle, where he played Ruggiero in Alcina and Silvio in Il Pastor Fido, and at the Göttingen Händel Festival as Tolomeo in Giulio Cesare in Egitto.[6]

Early life and Education

In 2002, he transferred to the Manhattan School of Music, changing his major to vocal performance. He completed a BA/MA at the City University of New York at Hunter College, graduating in 2007.

In the 2023/2024 season, Tamagna will take on the role of Refugee in Jonathan Dove's The Flight at the Staatstheater Oldenburg. He is also set to perform the title role of Orfeo in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice at Tel Aviv Opera.[7]
