Nala Amirah (born August 30, 2004) is an Indonesian environmentalist and social entrepreneur.[1] She is the founder of Green Welfare Indonesia,[2] a youth-led NGO pioneering eco-social action through climate education, community empowerment, and nature-based solutions.[3][4] She began her activism at the age of 15, focusing on mobilizing Indonesian youth for climate action and environmental advocacy.[5]

Work

[edit]

Amirah's organization, Green Welfare Indonesia, was established as Indonesia's first youth-led NGO promoting social sustainability through climate education.[6] Recognizing the critical importance of climate literacy, she works to bridge the gap in behavioral change and drive practical action at the grassroots level, particularly through climate education at the nexus of restoration, energy, and agriculture in different levels of society.[7] Nala is also currently focusing on uplifting young girls-led climate curriculums and integrating them into formal education in Indonesia.[8][9]

Amirah is a member of the UN Women program, 30 for 2030,[10] a network designed to advise UN Women on their campaigns surrounding gender equality and climate. She was a delegate to COP28 in Dubai[6] where she participated on the UN Women Delegation and participated as a speaker for the Pakistan Pavilion on Gender Responsive and Inclusive Climate Action organized by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination of Government of Pakistan.[11]
