Larry Aberman is an American drummer, percussionist, composer and educator. He has worked closely with some of entertainment's most notable artists.
Aberman was a member of the group The Vaughan Brothers featuring Stevie Ray and Jimmie Vaughan.[1] They recorded the double Grammy Award winning album Family Style [2] produced by Nile Rodgers.[3] [4]
He was a sixteen-year cast member of Cirque du Soleil's Zumanity in Las Vegas, NV performing the featured duo act Expressions nightly, beginning in August 2003.[5] [6]
Aberman performed live and was featured on the weekly MTV Network show New Visions as part of the Nile Rodgers led house band with featured guest Nick Lowe.[7] Additional New Visions guests were John Hiatt, Howard Hewitt, Miki Howard[8] and many others.
Other artists he has recorded and performed with include: Jeff Beal,[9] Joe Sample,[10] David Lee Roth,[11] Lionel Richie, Ric Ocasek, etc.[12]
He attended The Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY studying with John Beck and graduated with distinction in 1986.[13] At Eastman he recorded the Grammy Award nominated album Carnaval for trumpeter Wynton Marsalis with the Eastman Wind Ensemble.[14] [13] He also won student awards from Downbeat magazine as a member of the Eastman Jazz Ensemble.[15] Aberman attended the High School of Music and Art in New York City studying with Justin DiCioccio.[16]
Aberman is an adjunct instructor of drum set at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, UNLV. [8] He is also an instructor at The Nashville Jazz Workshop.[12]
As a musical performer he endorses: Drum Workshop drums and hardware, [17] Zildjian cymbals and sticks, [18] and Remo drumheads and percussion. [19]
Larry is married to dancer/acrobat Marcela De La Vega Luna and they have three children. [20] [21]
