Formerly the founder and CEO of iCrossing[1][2] (acquired by Hearst Communications in 2010[3]), ZOG Digital (acquired by Investis in 2017,[4] previously owned by ECI[5] and Investcorp[6]), along with other ventures,[7][8][9] he is currently the founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Avenue Z, a media and technology company.[10]
Early life and education
[edit]Jeffrey Herzog was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, United States. He pursued higher education at American University in Washington D.C., where he earned a bachelor's degree in pre-law studies in 1991.
Career
[edit]iCrossing
[edit]Herzog founded iCrossing in 1998.[11] By 2010, the company grew into one of the largest independent digital agencies globally.[12] While serving as its CEO, iCrossing expanded to over 12 domestic and international offices, and over $120M in annual revenue.[13] The company was sold to Hearst Magazines in 2010 for approximately $450 million.[14] Over a 10 year span as its CEO, Herzog acquired and integrated five domestic and international companies including Proxicom[15] (Virginia), NewGate Internet[16] (San Francisco), Sharp Analytics[17] (Salt Lake City), Spannerworks[18] (UK), and 3GNet[19] (Munich). Herzog raised $125M in funding from individual and institutional investors including Goldman Sachs, Oak Investment Partners, and other investors.[20]
By 2010, iCrossing, was described as of “largest remaining independent businesses that specialize in advising marketers on buying Web-search keywords, crafting their websites, and tracking what people are saying about their brands online.”[21] Hearst Corp.’s acquisition of iCrossing was the publisher’s first entry into the marketing services business.[22]
ZOG Digital / Investis Digital
[edit]In 2011, Herzog established ZOG Digital,[4] a digital marketing and technology company focused on digital and content marketing strategies. In 2016, ZOG Digital was named one of Forrester’s 10 Search Marketing Agency Providers That Matter Most[23] before it was acquired by London-based Investis Digital in 2018.[4] Upon announcing the acquisition, the company claimed it will “further enhance the corporate communications services provided by Investis.”[4] After the acquisition, Herzog took on the role of Senior Advisor to the former Chief Executive Officer, Don Scales.[4] In that role, Herzog consulted on a variety of topics impacting the strategic direction and ultimate sale of the company by Investcorp in April 2021 for $225M.[6]
Avenue Z
[edit]Today, Herzog is the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Avenue Z,[24] a media and technology company. Herzog claims the company “drives influence across all channels, resulting in increased revenue and reputation for its global client base.”[25] Avenue Z is headquartered in Miami, Florida, with offices in Orlando and New York.[26]
Founded in June 2023,[14] Avenue Z is backed by both individual and institutional investors including Baleon Capital, a private equity fund focused on B2B tech-enabled services.[27][28] During its first four months of operations, the company acquired and integrated three media, public relations and technology companies. Those companies include The Snow Agency[29] [30] (Miami), Bevel PR,[31] (Miami and New York),[32] and DesignZillas[33][30] (Orlando). In a report from PR Week, after merging together three different agencies, Herzog stressed his venture is focused on the convergence of media, creative, analytics and technology.[34]
Herzog was named one of Phoenix Business Journal’s Tech Titan’s of 2013[35] and one of Best Startups’ 101 Top CEOs in the Social Media Marketing Space in 2022.[36]
Personal Life
[edit]Herzog is married to Jill Herzog and is a father to four daughters.
