Draft:Hungarians in Hollywood book series

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hungarians in Hollywood is a Hungarian language film history book series published by FilmHungary. The series' creators and permanent editors are Sándor Takó and Tamás Kollarik.[1]

History

[edit]

The series was launched in 2020 with the autobiography of two legendary Hollywood studio founders, Adolph Zukor and William Fox (née William Fried). Both volumes were originally written in English. Adolph Zukor, the founder of Paramount Pictures and father of American filmmaking, had his autobiography The Public Is Never Wrong published in 1953 and published in Hungarian under the title 'A közönség sohasem téved.' William Fox, the founder of 20th Century Fox and a pioneer of talkies, was originally published in 1933 written by Upton Sinclair as Upton Sinclair presents: William Fox.[2]

Each volume in the series, published by FilmHungary, presents the life and career of Hollywood based Hungarian filmmakers in large, album-like works, richly illustrated with colour and black-and-white photographs and posters. In addition to the above, it is considered valuable in the film industry for drawing the attention of the profession and the general public to lesser-known Hungarian filmmakers. The series is edited by Dr. Sándor Takó, a multiple Hungarian Motion Picture Award-winning filmmaker, lecturer at the Faculty of Law of Pázmány Péter Catholic University, and alumni fellow of the Hungarian Academy of Arts, and Dr. Tamás Kollarik, a Bánffy Miklós Award-winning, István Nemeskürty Award-winning filmmaker, lecturer at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design.[3]

The series has become one of the most popular cultural series in Hungary in recent years, and the volumes are available nationwide. The series first published the autobiography of Adolph Zukor, Oscar-winning founder of Paramount Pictures, William Fox, founder of 20th Century Fox Studios, and later the autobiography of three-time Oscar-winner Miklós Rózsa. [4] The first comprehensive monograph on the pioneer of Hungarian filmmaking, Jeno Janovics, and a biography of five-time EMMY Award-winning Hungarian contemporary film legend Gábor Csupó, who animated The Simpsons and produced Rugrats, were published as part of the series.[5]

Since its launch, the series has published a total of 7 volumes up to 2024.
