Finestre sull'Arte is a newspaper dedicated to ancient art and contemporary art as well as cultural policies. It is the only Italian art magazine that offers subscription-based access to its archive. It publishes an average of ten articles per day, including reviews, insights, criticism, and information about exhibitions and events, and aims to serve as a tool for both general and specialized art knowledge. Since 2024, articles have been published in English, French, German, and Spanish.
History
[edit]Finestre sull’Arte was founded in 2009[1], by journalists Federico Giannini and Ilaria Baratta, initially as a podcast on art history. In 2012, it was transformed into a blog. In 2015, it won the Silvia Dell'Orso Award for the best historical-artistic dissemination work.
In June 2017, Finestre sull’Arte was relaunched as a registered newspaper. Since 2018, it has published a 178-page magazine on a quarterly basis, available via subscription. In 2022, the print magazine became available in the bookstores of the Uffizi Gallery in Florence and the MAXXI in Rome.
In 2019, Finestre sull’Arte participated in "Matera 2019: l’Open Future delle imprese italiane", an initiative promoted by Confindustria, which brought fifty Italian companies to Matera, the European Capital of Culture 2019, selected for their ability to promote beauty, balance, and technology.
In 2021, the magazine was the media partner of the exhibition "Il Corpo e l'Anima, da Donatello a Michelangelo. Scultura italiana del Rinascimento" at the Sforza Castle in Milan. The same year, it was the media partner of the online course "L’Arte è Vita" curated by Alessandra Montalbetti for the Peggy Guggenheim Collection; in 2022, it partnered with the exhibition "Caroto e le arti tra Mantegna e Veronese" in Verona at the Gran Guardia Palace.
In 2023, Finestre sull’Arte was a media partner of several exhibitions, including "Morandi 1890-1964" in Milan at Palazzo Reale, "Bertozzi & Casoni. Tranche de vie" in Imola at the city's three public museums, and "I Fasti di Elisabetta Farnese. Ritratto di una Regina" in the Ducal Chapel of Palazzo Farnese.
In 2023, it produced and released the web series "Pillole di Perugino". This project, featuring art historian and popularizer Jacopo Veneziani, is part of the initiatives aimed at disseminating knowledge of the figure and works of Perugino. The "Pillole di Perugino" project was selected by the Organizing Committee for the celebrations of the fifth centenary of the death of painter Pietro Vannucci, known as "il Perugino," established in 2022 by the Ministry of Culture.
In 2021, Daniele Rocca and Federico Giannini were the authors of the documentary Le Mani dell’Arte, broadcast on Rai 5 as part of the Art Night program.
