Faisal Khosa (Urdu: فیصل کھوسہ, born 19 Apr,1972) is Pakistani-Canadian radiologist and a globally renowned champion for equity & inclusion. He serves as Chair of the Equity, Diversity Inclusion (EDI) Advisory Committee of Doctors of BC, Chair of Diversity and Inclusion Publications & Presentations Workgroup of the American College of Radiology, member of the EDI committee of the Canadian Association of Radiologists and Co-Vice Chair EDI committee of University of British Columbia Radiology. Faisal Khosa is the founder of Emergency Radiology Track of the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine.

Education

Faisal Khosa did his bachelor degree of science (BSc) at University of Punjab, Pakistan. It was followed by medical training (MBBS) at Allama Iqbal Medical School, Pakistan. Subsequently, he finished radiology residency and an interventional radiology fellowship at Saint James Hospital in Dublin, Ireland. He further continued his fellowship training in cross-sectional radiology at Adelaide & Meath Hospital, Dublin and a pediatric fellowship at Our Lady’s Hospital, Dublin. He continued his further fellowship training in USA in Onco-Radiology at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, followed by fellowships in Cardiovascular Imaging, Emergency radiology, Body MRI and Neuroradiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, MA, USA.

He also holds a ‘Diploma in Management for Medical Doctors’ from Institute of Management, Dublin, Ireland and an MBA from Goizueta Business School, Emory University, Atlanta, USA.

He is a board-certified radiologist in Ireland, USA and Canada.

Academic Career

He has practiced Medicine in Pakistan, Ireland, USA and Canada. Over the years, he has mentored more than 1000 students and junior physicians from underrepresented and minority groups across the world. He is a frequent faculty speaker at conferences, visiting professor to eminent universities across the world. [1]

Special Interests

Dr. Faisal Khosa strongly believes in the domain of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) across healthcare settings and in Academic Disciplines. He is frequently invited to conduct seminars and hands-on workshops (experiential and immersion) on EDI by professional societies and academic institutions across North America and beyond. The workshop topics include actionable guidelines to mitigate gender, racial, financial, and intersectional disparity, allyship, bystander versus upstander, microaggression, microinsults, microinvalidations and microassaults.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8] [9][10][11]

Emergency Radiology Track of the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine (WADEM)

WADEM and its international partners strive to improve the scientific basis for disaster and emergency health practice and to establish best practices based on validated evidence. The outcomes of these projects protect, reduce morbidity and mortality, improve recovery, and enable the development of more resilient communities all over the world.[12]

He is a prolific writer and has authored more than 290 peer reviewed manuscripts[13] and medical and non-medical book/book chapters. Medical book chapters include:

1. Chapters in Emergency Radiology Cases, Oxford University Press, 2014[14]

2. A book chapter on “Non-cardiac Pathology” in 3rd Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging.[15]

3. A book chapter on “Radiation Dose Reduction Strategies for Acute Abdominal and Pelvic CT” MDCT and MR Imaging of Acute Abdomen.[16]

Non-Medical Books:

In recognition of Dr Khosa’s research and expertise, the publisher Bloomsbury has invited Dr Khosa to author a book series on Leadership (Autocratic, Affiliative, Bureaucratic, Coaching, Democratic, Dynastic, Populist, Servant, Strategic, Situational, Transactional, Transformational & Visionary). The first book in the leadership series was published in 2021.

The second book in the leadership series is expected in June 2025.

Dr Khosa also has a contract with the publisher Elsevier for a book series on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. The first book in this series is expected in November 2024 and has 11 chapters one on each Health Profession: Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Healthcare Across the Globe: From Knowledge to Practice.[18]

Humanitarian Service

Dr Khosa was instrumental in fundraising, collecting donations and establishing disaster relief centers at the time of the devastating earthquake in Pakistan in October 2005 and massive floods in 2010 and 2012 and 2022. In recognition of his sustained humanitarian service, Dr Khosa received the Global Humanitarian Award of The American College of Radiology.[19]

Notable Honor

Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (Urdu: تمغہِ امتیاز, lit. 'Medal of Excellence') is a state-organized honor of Pakistan. For his extensive contributions in the field of education, Faisal Khosa had been bestowed with medal of Excellence by Government of Pakistan (2013).[20]

Personal Life and Family

He hails from Dera Ghazi Khan and belongs to a family of the Khosa Baloch tribe.[31] He is married and has three children. His father, Latif Khosa is presently a member of National Assembly Pakistan from NA-122 Lahore since 10 February 2024 and was a former Governor of Punjab, Pakistan, a senator and an attorney general for Pakistan.[32]
