Discovery

[edit]

On March 10, 2023, a contractor performing invasive plant species control on the lake bed of the Great Salt Lake near Farmington, Utah, discovered what he believed to be a human bone floating in the water. Upon further investigation, additional bones were found in the area, along with small pieces of clothing and an electronic device. Law enforcement conducted multiple searches, including the final search on August 28, 2023.[1]

Investigation

[edit]

The remains consisted of partial skeletal bones, with the head, one or more limbs, and one or both hands missing. Several pieces of clothing, including blue jean and blue leather material, were recovered near the body, along with an electronic device identified as an iPad.[2]

Due to the state of the remains, the cause of death remains undetermined. The individual is estimated to have been a male between the ages of 30 and 50, though ethnicity remains uncertain. No further distinctive physical features could be identified, and no additional clues have emerged regarding the person’s identity. The investigation remains ongoing, and law enforcement has requested the public's assistance in providing information related to the case.[1][2]
