Throughout her career, American singer Britney Spears has received substantial recognition as a cultural figure, receiving recognition for her impact on pop culture and within the music industry. Britney is heavily referred to as the “Princess of Pop”. [1]

In the late 1990s, Britney Spears burst onto the scene with her debut single "…Baby One More Time," which went number 1 in every county it charted in. Britney's success with "…Baby One More Time" showcased mass success, changing the trajectory of pop music & bubblegum pop.[2]

Britney’s music videos have played a significant role in shaping pop culture and being credited in several other artists work. In 2011, Britney received the Lifetime Achievement award, MTV Video Vanguard Award, for her “outstanding contributions” and “profound impact” on music videos and pop culture.[3]

Britney is one of the best-selling artists of all time, garnering commercial success through Billboard charts with 5 Number 1 singles, “…Baby One More Time”, “Womanizer”, “3”, “Hold it Against Me”, “S&M Remix” and 6 Number 1 albums, “…Baby One More Time”, “Oops!… I Did it Again”, “Britney”, “In the Zone”, “Circus” and “Femme Fatale”.[4]

Spears has set numerous Billboard achievements being named the top female artist in 1999 by the magazine.[6] Billboard ranked her the eighth overall Artist of the Decade, and also recognized her as the best-selling female album artist of the 21st century's first decade, as well as the fifth overall. [7][8] Additionally, the Recording Industry Association of America recognized Spears as the ninth best-selling female artist in the United States. [9] Spears serves as one of the few artists in history to have a number-one single and studio album in each of the three decades of their career—1990s, 2000s, and 2010s.[10]

Spears is one of the best-selling music artists of all time and one of the best-selling female artists of all time, selling over 150 million record worldwide.[11] Britney has amounted a number of successful singles worldwide.

Britney’s success with "…Baby One More Time" showcased that a pop girl could achieve incredible commercial success. The song and it’s accompanying music video created a cultural phenomenon, propelling Britney to superstardom.[12] Britney has been cited as a ‘Pop Icon’ within the music industry and has been cited as one of the best dancers/performers within the industry.
