As a contributor who has tried to expand the "British jazz musicians" category by creating a few entries and also by cross-referencing other existing entries to this category, in order to provide a single initial point of reference, I would like to solicit views on the proliferation of sub-categories under this heading.

I feel that the creation of sub-categories such as "English jazz musicians", "Scottish jazz musicians" and also various instrumental categories is generally unhelpful to those who might be seeking more information on British jazz. There are not so many musicians with entries as to make a single "British jazz musicians" category unwieldy, and the (il)logical extension of this approach would be categories such as "jazz guitarists born in Newcastle upon Tyne".

I accept that there would a case for a more categorised approach if we were dealing with a much larger number of musicians such as those born in the USA.

The only case where I think there is a valid exception is the "British jazz singers" category.
