On 14 October 2024, the Israeli military bombed tents within the grounds of the Shuhada al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir el-Balah, Gaza Strip. At least four people were confirmed killed in the attack and at least 70 injured after a major fire broke out, though the death toll is expected to rise.[1][2] A reporter on the scene stated the bombing caused gas cylinders to explode.[3] Footage that could not immediately be verified showed tents on fire while people tried "helplessly" to put them out.[4][5] A widely shared video of the blaze appeared to show at least one person lying on a bed, burning alive.[6] Without evidence, the Israeli military stated it had bombed a "command centre" in the hospital.[7] Around one million are estimated to be sheltering in Deir el-Balah.[8]
In reaction, the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee stated, "The United States is directly responsible for the unfolding massacre at the Al-Aqsa Hospital, and for all the lives lost during this genocide."[9]
