EXPECTUNUSEDTEMPLATE magic word not needed when Template:subst only is present

[edit]

I'm curious about this edit and similar ones. That magic word is typically used to keep template pages off of the unused template report, but pages that have {{subst only}} or {{transclusionless}} in their documentation should never appear on the report. Were you motivated to add the magic words by the templates' appearance on a report? – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:52, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I whined at phabricator about the dearth of documentation. There was some improvement but, such as it is, the documentation makes no mention of {{subst only}} or {{transclusionless}}. So, I added the magic word to those translator templates so that I will never need to defend their existence at some future WP:TFD.

Good article reassessment for USS Texas (BB-35)

[edit]

USS Texas (BB-35) has been nominated for a good article reassessment. If you are interested in the discussion, please participate by adding your comments to the reassessment page. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, the good article status may be removed from the article. Note: I have also requested MILHIST A-Class reappraisal. voorts (talk/contributions) 01:43, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Advice please

[edit]

You came up on the list of Recently Active Admins. There is an IP user, 82.4.208.76 who has been repeatedly making misleading edits to a number of pages. Usually he/she reverses the edit a few hours later. It's mischievous and potentially mislead. But is it vandalism? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/82.4.208.76

Thanks, Bob (talk) 19:10, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, monitoring editor behaviour is not my area of expertise. You would do better to find an admin who does that sort of thing regularly.

Template:Lang-de

[edit]

I have gone and removed all the lang-de and replaced it with Langx.

I am now going to work on lang-fr now.

Reader of Information (talk) 13:51, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Reader of Information: I have gone and removed all the lang-de and replaced it with Langx Really? There are still some 40,000 transclusions of that template. There are ~1145 {{lang-??}} templates. To avoid unnecessary annoyance, I only caused {{lang-de}} (because it had a suitably large number of transclusions) to show the tiny TfD message as advertisement for Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2024 September 27 § Replace and delete lang-?? templates, all others are hidden. If you replace all of those {{lang-de}} transclusions, there will be no advertisements so no one will see that there is a TfD in progress. Please wait for the TfD to conclude before you continue to replace all instances of {{lang-de}}.

Yep! I removed all the direct ones. Reader of Information (talk) 14:14, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh wait. I didn't realize it was still in progress. Whoops. Reader of Information (talk) 14:14, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I removed all the direct ones what does that mean? If you had replaced all transclusions in 40,000+ articles, I would expect to see eleven+ hours of edits in your contributions (assuming one edit per second continuously – not likely achievable). Your contributions show only fourteen edit summaries that claim replacement.

What I mean is I replaced the ones that didn't have the tag: (tranclusion) Reader of Information (talk) 16:26, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If I look in your contributions and choose an article where you changed {{lang-de}} to {{langx}} and look at the version prior to your edit, I see the TfD tag in the first sentence so clearly that article was tagged so I don't know what you mean by I replaced the ones that didn't have the tag: (tranclusion). And there is no tag (tranclusion) – or even (transclusion). It is possible that you were looking at a cached version that MediaWiki had not yet updated 24h41m after I added the tag to {{lang-de}}. Changes to templates are not instantly visible in the articles that transclude them so it is entirely likely that there are still articles that do not display the TfD tag.

Ah makes sense. Reader of Information (talk) 22:34, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
