user script

[edit]

Hi there! The user script you installed in your monobook.js (the assessment script from User talk:Outriggr/assessment.js) has added your userpage to the list of unassessed university articles. There's a "fix" in the updated code in the installation section on Outriggr's page. When you get a chance, would you mind implementing it so that your monobook.js will clear out from the list of unassessed articles? Thanks! Esrever 00:43, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for taking care of that. I am indeed trying to assess all the WP:UNI articles, and I'm happy to know someone else is doing it, too. :) Esrever 14:59, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, as you tag other articles with WP:UNI tag, feel free to give them a class rating then, too. I've been sort of following along behind you this afternoon as articles turn up on the unassessed list. Esrever 18:35, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if you're still using that user script from Outriggr's page, you should be able to tag something and assess it simultaneously. If you're on an article's page, clicking the assessment with "WikiProject Universities" displayed in the dropdown will add both the tag and the assessment to the talk page (which I'm sure you've realized at this point). Earlier, you'd mentioned that you were mostly just assessing Stub- and Start-Class articles, but don't be afraid to assess the ones you think are B-Class (you'll almost never need anything above that, since the other ratings usually require a "formal" process anyway). The difference often comes down to references; B-Class articles always need at least one. Cheers! Esrever 19:37, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No prob! :) Esrever 14:52, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Colleges in Quebec

[edit]

Hello, I noticed that you have inserted wikiproject university templates in the talk pages of Dawson College and Marianopolis College. I'm not sure whether they be included since the colleges in Quebec are called CEGEPs where it is mandatory in order to attend university and only grants vocational or technical degrees. What do you think?--Janarius 18:48, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Did you see the result of your revert? [1] JungleCat Shiny!/Oohhh! 23:31, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, I noticed that after I reverted. There were multiple IP addresses vandalizing Sport in Australia multiple times, and I accidentally reverted to a vandalized edit. I just restored a non-vandalized version. Thanks for the notice, though. Danelo 23:34, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No probs. RC patrol is not easy. There were two anons working at the same time on that one. Cheers! JungleCat Shiny!/Oohhh! 23:37, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hehe, very nice. It truly is a dangerous world out there on the "Recent changes" page (although since when is "hahaha, i deleted it all" considered vandalism anyway?) ;) Danelo 16:54, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

Why did you put back the vandalism on the St Francis College page that erroneously describes a non-incident?

Good eye for the changes on List of medical abbreviations, it's too bad this users who may have been acting in good faith did not read his talk page to explain what he was doing. hmmm. Anyways, thanks for the help on the reverts and it looks like you already issued a WP:ARV. Have a great day. :) Tiggerjay 21:07, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Yeah, (s)he was very methodical. They'd have to be a very dedicated vandal to go through the whole list like they were doing (of course, that may be the case). Hopefully they used some of their free time in the past 31 hours to check their talk page :P. Danelo 02:54, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on Games n' Music Homebrew Compatibility List. I do not think that Games n' Music Homebrew Compatibility List fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because the links provide sufficient context for a user intersted in expansion, although the aricl needs celanup and batter sourcing, and might not survive an afd. the other reasons cited in the speedy delete tag are appropriate at Afd or maybe WP:PROD but not for speedy delete. I request that you consider not re-tagging Games n' Music Homebrew Compatibility List for speedy deletion without discussing the matter on the appropriate talk page. DES (talk) 16:17, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That makes sense; thanks for the explanation. I nominated the article for AfD here. ~ Danelo 00:56, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stub-class for Monmouth University

[edit]

If you could stop by Monmouth University again, I have restored some text that was wiped out from what is likely a student or staff member (according to the WHOIS for that IP). This might move the article out of stub class. Thanks.—Twigboy 16:37, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bumped it up to Start-class (and left an explanation on the talk page). :) ~ Danelo 20:11, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion

Hi User:Danelo. Why did you delete "Do you think your DVD collection has a soul?" from the article about cricket player Monty Panesar? 86.128.21.104 23:11, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Because it is vandalism, i.e. a deliberate attempt to compromise the integrity of Wikipedia. Please stop inserting that phrase, which is entirely unrelated to sports or sports players, in articles. If you'd like to contribute to Wikipedia, please do so constructively. ~ Danelo 23:18, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stoughton Unverifiable Personal Statement

[edit]

Hey Danelo why keep this statement , What to have on this Family ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Stoughton%2C_Massachusetts "The most distinguished family in Stoughton is the Smelly— Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.71.23.54 (talk) 16:42, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That should be kept because it's part of the note that an editor (68.163.157.64) left on the article's talk page explaining why he removed that statement from the article itself. ~ Danelo 19:23, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Do you know the person named is a Police officer , You should delete that whole entry.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.71.23.54 (talk) 17:28, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I restored 68.163.157.64's original comment, which was vandalized after (s)he left it. This comment should be kept because it's not making that statement about the Pascarelli family, it's explaining why 68.163.157.64 deleted that statement from the article. If it was making that statement (either in the article or on the talk page), it should definitely be deleted. ~ Danelo 14:08, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:PDD userbox

I was about to inform you I made the change, but I got caught up in something else. − Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 18:27, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, thanks again for the fast change. One more thing: I noticed that the userbox isn't including users who have it in the category, but it is including {{User:Twas Now/Userbox/WikiProject Psychedelics, Dissociatives and Deliriants}}. This can be fixed if you change <noinclude>[[Category:WikiProject Psychedelics, Dissociatives and Deliriants members]]</noinclude> to <includeonly>[[Category:WikiProject Psychedelics, Dissociatives and Deliriants members]]</includeonly>. ~ Danelo 18:41, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know how I might remove the Wikipedia-space pages from Category:WikiProject Psychedelics, Dissociatives and Deliriants members?? − Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 19:03, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And feel free to edit that userbox, too. − Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 19:04, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for looking into that. I assume it's not something that can be fixed with our current tools. On a side note, all of the other users in the category have been alphabetized but your username still remains under "U". − Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 15:05, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I changed the colours and enlarged the image. You can experiment with some other colours, and then we can discuss. It's not a big deal to me though. − Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 02:19, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of new article

[edit]

Hello Danelo. Can you explain your reasons for deleting the new article for Peter Knobler? Not only is he referenced throughout wikipedia already (the entry was intended to provide a way to consolidate many of these threads), but the entry itself came tagged with an independent source citing all of his books. I generally appreciate the work you do but this has me a bit confused. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.243.239.201 (talk) 22:52, August 25, 2007 (UTC)

Hi there. I didn't actually delete the article, because there never was one. I did, however, decline your request for the creation of the article Peter Knobler. This was because you did not provide sufficient sources for the proposed article. Wikipedia requires that its articles are backed up by reliable, independent sources. The link to Amazon.com was merely a list of the books Knobler has published and thus doesn't qualify. Please note that this does not necessarily mean that Knobler isn't worthy of an article; he may very well be. However, please provide sources to back up your submissions. Thanks for your contributions! ~ Danelo 23:02, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Danelo. At the risk of betraying my own ineptitude, can you suggest a source more reliable than an amazon list? Are the wikipedia entries in which Knobler is mentioned sufficient for this? Here is a link to a NYT article on one of his books: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9E07E2D9123BF936A2575AC0A962958260&n=Top%2fReference%2fTimes%20Topics%2fPeople%2fC%2fCarville%2c%20James
Is that the sort of citation you need?
That would be a reliable, independent source, yes. However, it does not cover Peter Knobler; he is not mentioned. Sources are required not only to verify statements in an article but also to establish the article subject's notability (that is, to show that the subject "has received significant coverage in reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject"). Since this source does not cover Peter Knobler, but rather one of his books, it does not assert his notability and thus would be (on its own) insufficient for creating this article. If the New York Times wrote an article all or in part about Knobler, that would be a suitable source. If you like, you can read Wikipedia's how to develop an article guideline for tips on writing great articles. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask me (you can also ask at the help desk). :) ~ Danelo 23:30, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for your guidance, Danelo. I'll do some more work on this and bring it back (although it's not always easy to find articles written about writers!). I appreciate this. It has been most helpful. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.243.239.201 (talk) 23:57, August 25, 2007 (UTC)
You're very welcome! You may also want to consider creating an account, which allows you to create articles yourself. It also has other benefits (e.g. not displaying your IP address). New editors are always welcome (although that's the case whether you create an account or not :) ). ~ Danelo 00:09, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

deletion from 4,5-MDO-DMT

[edit]

Hey, Danelo. Why did you delete the "see also" section from this article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Use the force (talkcontribs) 13:10, August 26, 2007 (UTC)

Hi Use the force. I deleted it because all three links in the section (DMT, tryptamine, and psychedelics, dissociatives, and deliriants) were already linked in the body of the article. Thus, they were redundant. The Manual of style for medicine-related articles recommends avoiding "See also" sections by using wikilinks in the main article instead.
On a related note, I've made a few proposals on WikiProject Psychedelics, Dissociatives and Deliriants' talk page you might be interested in. If you are so inclined, please check them out when you have a minute. :) ~ Danelo 15:01, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK. also, good work tagging up all those PiHKAL and TiHKAL articles with wikiproject banners, Ill do some too once I get back home. --Use the force (Talk * Contribs) 09:48, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I've actually finished tagging all the articles in these templates with the WP:PDD project banner, and now am going to start tagging articles in relevant categories. As I was going through the PiHKAL and TiHKAL articles, I noticed how many you created. I've left a message on your talk page about it. :) ~ Danelo 19:04, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's a merge tag on the article Legal and medical status of cannabis. Since you appear to be involved in the associated WikiProject, would you care to weigh in or even perform the merge? Pairadox 23:44, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've taken a quick look over the two articles and agree that a merger is logical. I'm going out of town for the next few days and won't have access to a computer, but I could definitely perform the merge sometime next week. ~ Danelo 00:59, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I did. I'll work on the merge when I have a block of free time (probably tomorrow). ~ Danelo 01:45, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Pharmacology is currently organizing a new Collaboration of the Week program, designed to bring drug and medication related articles up to featured status. We're currently soliciting nominations and/or voting on nominations for the first WP:RxCOTW, to begin on September 5, 2007. Please stop by the Pharmacology Collaboration of the Week page to participate! Thanks! Dr. Cash 17:48, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aspirin has been selected as this week's Pharmacology Collaboration of the Week! Please help us bring this article up to featured standards during the week. The goal is to nominate this at WP:FAC on September 10, 2007.

Also, please visitWP:RxCOTW to support other articles for the next COTW. Articles that have been nominated thus far include Doxorubicin, Paracetamol (in the lead with 4 support votes so far), Muscle relaxant, Ethanol, and Bufotenin.

In other news:

  • The Wikipedia:WikiProject Pharmacology main page has been updated and overhauled, to make it easier to find things, as well as to highlight other goals and announcements for the project.
  • Fvasconcellos notes that discussion is ongoing regarding the current wording of MEDMOS on including dosage information in drug articles. All input is welcome.

Removed See also's

[edit]

Hi Danelo, thanks for your restless improvements to psychedelic-related articles. I do not think that the removal of the See also links is a good idea. The links might be repeated in the templates, but the content of these templates is hidden by default, there is no room for an explaining sentence in the template, and the templates contains articles that might be less related than a selected set of See also links. I would like to reinstate the removed See also sections. Cacycle 20:54, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, that sounds reasonable to me. I've been going through the {{TiHKAL}} and {{PiHKAL}} articles, trying to bring the existing content up to the MoS for medicine-related articles (e.g. converting the existing infobox to the {{drugbox}}, ordering the sections, etc.). It recommends avoiding "See also" sections and including wikilinks in the body of the article, so when I see those I remove them. However, I removed some that weren't already wikilinked in the article body. Until they are, I would agree to keep them (those that are reasonably relevant, of course). I'll restore the ones I just deleted. Thanks for pointing it out! ~ Danelo 21:03, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a brief update in some of the recent developments of WikiProject Pharmacology!

  • Aspirin has just completed its two week run as the first Collaboration of the Week! Many thanks to those editors that contributed; the article got a lot of good work accomplished, and in particular, much work was done in fixing up the history section. It's still not quite "done" yet (is a wikipedia article really ever done?), but after two weeks I think it's more important to push onwards with the development of the new collaboration of the week program. I will be fixing up Aspirin in the next few days and possibly nominating it for either GA or FA status.
  • Please remember that Wikipedia is not a forum for discussing or dispensing medical advice amongst users. Specifically, talk pages of articles should only be used to discuss improving the actual article in question. To help alleviate this situation, the template {{talkheader}} may be added to the top of talk pages, reminding users of the purpose of such pages. Additionally, unsigned comments and comments by anonymous users that are inappropriate may be removed from talk pages without being considered vandalism.

  • The Pharmacology Collaboration of the Week has been changed to Collaboration of the Month, based on current participation levels. It is also more likely that articles collaborated on for one month are more likely to achieve featured quality than articles worked on for only a week or two.
