Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

  • I have unblocked you after your successful username change. Please be aware that regardless of your username change, you need to abide by our conflict of interest guideline. I am also placing a standard paid editing notice below this with which you must comply. Please read it carefully. If you have questions, let me know. Thanks, --Hammersoft (talk) 15:37, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello JDAllenCarrFan. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:JDAllenCarrFan. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=JDAllenCarrFan|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. --Hammersoft (talk) 15:37, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please accept my apologies - I am not sure if I am replying properly or not. I am unfamiliar with editing wikipedia and don't expect to do it often at all.

Allen Carr was a dear friend of mine and although I am paid by Allen Carr's Easyway (I help people to stop smoking) I am certainly NOT paid to make edits on wikipedia etc. I have made one important correction (something untrue about the origin of Allen Carr's Easyway method) and updated some information about the books Allen Carr has published, the other formats of his method (such as online video programmes), and how his work survives his sad death in 2006. I don't expect to ever make further edits other than to correct any errors that may occur in the future.

I hope that this helps. Best wishes JD

  • Thank you. I respect your desire to make his article correct. However, given your conflict of interest it would likely be best if you posted to Talk:Allen Carr with suggested changes to the article. Providing reliable, secondary sources to support the changes is critical. I'm happy to help. I've watchlisted the article and its talk page (meaning; when something changes I'll be alerted), so any suggestions you make at the talk page will be seen by me. If you have questions, let me know. Also, you can sign your posts by adding at "~~~~" to the end of your post. This places your username and a timestamp to the post. --Hammersoft (talk) 16:58, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for your offer of help. I hope I have done it properly now but please forgive me if it is not so (I find the screens very difficult to deal with as I am dyslexic...it all just looks even more jumbled up than normal for me. Is this how I leave my user name? "~~~~"

Hello, your recent edits at Allen Carr produced a goodly number of ref-error messages. Please do not leave a page in a condition which makes reading awkward. References need to be placed within the ref tags thus.<ref>the reference goes here</ref> Please see WP:REFB for the guidelines to correctly adding references and also do not use 'bare urls' as this leaves them liable to 'link-rot'. I have removed references from the selected publications and if you need them, you can find them at User:Eagleash/sandbox#Allen Carr. (I will delete them after 28 days). Or you can find them in the diff of my edit. Also, please do not add commentary (talking) within articles use talk pages to communicate with other editors.

Here are some useful links to help you get properly started:

Please study them carefully and please ensure that you have complied with the WP:COI and WP:PAID issues noted earlier. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 14:55, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for your help and apologies for all the errors. I won't be making any further edits - just wanted to update the page properly. Thanks JD (talk) 15:21, 23 March 2021 (UTC)JDAllenCarrFanJD (talk) 15:21, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
