Edit Request: Link to Article

[edit]

Hi! I've handled some edit request (both COI and SP/EP), and I noticed that this template does not link to the article for which the edit is requested. In contrast, other request templates such as Template:Edit semi-protected and Template:Edit extended-protected include that: "It is requested that an edit be made to the extended-confirmed-protected article at Article Name." It's quite a handy feature, and I don't see any real reason against implementing it for this request template as well. I would have loved to provide a textdiff suggestion, but I am completely clueless about how templates work, and looking at the source code here didn't help. Thanks in advance!  Done Should be, anyway. Izno (talk) 18:45, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Izno, thanks a bunch, it looks to be working great! If I may take the liberty to be a little bit annoying, could you make an analogous change for the other versions of the template, i.e., {{request edit|R}} and {{request edit|N}}? I can't gauge how much work that would require, but I am very thankful for your help :) Actualcpscm (talk) 22:33, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request 24 April 2023

[edit]

The feature that User:Izno kindly implemented after my request (see above) breaks here, though I'm not sure why. Maybe it has something to do with the ampersand? I wish I could provide a textdiff for a fix, but my technical understanding just is not on that level. Actualcpscm (talk) 16:03, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it is supposed to provide the link in the answered form? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:11, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@MSGJ Sorry for the confusion, it breaks on the talk page of this article when it's not answered; the link doesn't work correctly. See this version. Actualcpscm (talk) 10:16, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay I see the problem. It is trying to link to [1] which doesn't work. I'll let Izno look at this I think :) — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 10:20, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Done Maybe done, maybe not? :) Izno (talk) 15:23, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The link in the edit request here still doesn't work, it appears to include this character after the ampersand: ⌸. Honestly it's an edge case, I feel like the effort-reward ratio is off here, so don't worry :) Actualcpscm (talk) 15:36, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
To editor Actualcpscm: reopened that edit request you linked, here, and it worked for me. Took me directly to Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute – isn't that what it's supposed to do? Appears to me that editor Izno has fixed it with the {{Full url:}} function. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 16:33, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nevermind, works now. I suppose it had still cached the old template when I tested it there, my bad. Thanks a bunch to everyone taking the time to deal with this! Actualcpscm (talk) 16:37, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 27 June 2023

Template:Request editTemplate:Edit COI – This template gets (mis)used fairly regularly, as indicated by edits such as Special:Diff/1162140876, and there have been previous (1, 2) discussions on this talk page that never went anywhere about the matter. Basically, "request edit" makes the request sound like "I can't do this myself and need help", while it actually is saying "I have a COI so I shouldn't edit the article and need help". These two things are, largely, different kettles of fish, and the name should reflect usage. There are a lot of redirects here and I just picked the one that seemed easiest to remember. • Support The {{request edit}} template, like the mythical Sirens of Greek lore, has long lured unsuspecting editors to invoke its use over the past few years, in the mistaken belief that it was needed to handle their simple, non-COI edit requests. Changing it will put those sirens to bed.  Spintendo  07:00, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support In addition to reducing confusion, this would also be consistent with the other templates (e.g., {{edit template-protected}} and {{edit semi-protected}}); per Help:Template: If similar templates exist, try to follow a consistent naming pattern. To maintain consistency, there should also be a shortcut called {{CPER}}. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Voorts (talkcontribs) 18:28, 4 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - Not sure of any down-the-line issues, but this move would help define between other request templates. - FlightTime (open channel) 18:59, 4 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed fix: Change 'New section' to 'Add topic'

[edit]

User is instructed that to use the template they must "Go to the article's Talk page and click the New section tab" but such a tab does not seem to exist. I assume the user is meant to click the Add topic tab.

This should also be changed under the 'In further detail' subsection.

The new Vector theme appears to have a different wording; older themes use "New section". I'll start a WP:VPT thread about potentially getting this sorted on a broader scale. Primefac (talk) 11:29, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Request: Darnell Edge

[edit]

Hello. I am a paid page creator for Darnell Edge. Note this is disclosed publicly on the page. I have had a few run-ins with Wiki editors because I am new to the Wiki process, however, I understand I did not take the proper measures due to my confusion. I am currently blocked indefinitely per @Star Mississippi (no hard feelings!) from editing directly on the page. I would like to start anew and do this properly, as I did work very hard on this page and would like it to be perfect, as I was paid for this article already.

Therefore, I am suggesting the following edits through this page as suggested. The below edits were initially eradicated by @Left guide who has been helpful in this process. Left guide, I know you deleted these a few times, the first due to improper sources. I updated the sources but I do know you deleted again because I edited in the article directly rather than requested (or so I am assuming!). I am now requesting for the below in his Early life and College Career either from you @Left guide @DaHuzyBru or another editor, please.

For Early Life

Born and raised in Saugerties, New York, Edge first played basketball at the age of three after his father, who had once played for his own high school basketball team, gifted him with a Fisher Price toy basketball hoop. By age eight, Edge was playing in organized basketball leagues around town. (I have a citation here that displays Darnell grew up in Saugerties: https://hudsonvalleyone.com/2019/07/20/saugerties-basketball-standout-darnell-edge-learns-the-ropes-in-nba-summer/ can we use this citation and add this statement back?) (Because I am a paid editor I did communicate with Darnell at the time who told me he started playing ball at 3 after his father gifted him a Fisher Price hoop. There is no editorial evidence of this, but can I still include? It is a true statement. If not, I am fine to omit)

For College Career

Freshman season

As a freshman, Edge earned a career-high of 20 points during a match against Saint Francis University on January 28, 2016 (there is the ESPN citation here: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/recap?gameId=400845074 it is just one ESPN citation, I cannot find another source for this. Can we please use?) In the 2016 Northeast Conference men's basketball tournament against Wagner College, Edge and the Knights secured an 82–79 win, sending the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights to their first NCAA Tournament since 2005. (I originally cited this from Staten Island Live News article: https://www.silive.com/sports/advance/gordon/2016/02/wagner_college_falls_82-79_in.html does this count as an independent source as it is a news article)

Sophomore season

During the 2016–17 season with the Knights, Edge scored another career-high of 19 points against Saint Francis on February 25, 2017 (originally cited from USA Today: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/2017/02/25/st-francis-pa-holds-off-fairleigh-dickinson-70-64/98408526/?utm_source=feedblitz&utm_medium=FeedBlitzRss&utm_campaign=usatodaycomcollegemensbasketball-topstories can this be used?) and would go on to be named NEC Primetime Performer upon averaging 17 points per game with a field-goal percentage of 60.8 over a two-game period. (initially cited from the NEC.org cite, there are no other cites I can find, but I have noticed other wiki pages have actively cited NEC.org as it is the official website. Can we use? https://northeastconference.org/news/2018/11/25/MBB_Release_11_26_18-.aspx)

Junior season Following the title, Edge became the first Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball player to lead the NCAA in a category in the university's 68-year program history. On November 18, 2017 in a game against Kean University, Edge played a total of 24 minutes, scoring 18 points and seven steals, helping the Knights to a 94-55 win. (originally cited from USA Today as a news source, can we please use? https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/2017/11/18/edge-and-holloway-combine-for-35-in-fairleigh-dickinson-win/107826052/) In a match against Bryant University on January 27, 2018, Edge made five 3-pointers and racked up a team high of 21 points, as the Knights took home a 89–78 win. (originally cited from Associated Press news syndication from KSL, can we use this news source? https://www.ksl.com/article/46247218/fairleigh-dickinson-beats-bryant-89-78-behind-edge-jenkins)

I appreciate the help in advance. InfinitiBowie97 (talk) 20:21, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
