Shkodër Vilayet ?

[edit]

Takabeg (talk) 14:21, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why OK ? Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources is important and anyone's personal preferences are out of question. Please checked Vilayets of the Ottoman Empire and added {{Unreferenced}}.

Takabeg (talk) 16:09, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Support: In early 20th century, Shkodër was referred to in English by the Italian name Scutari. If this is true, that is a very good reason to replace Shkodër with its name on English language - Scutari, which is obviously much more sourced also.--Antidiskriminator (talk) 17:44, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Scutari was also the name of a district in İstanbul : Üsküdar. So it is best to keep Shkodër. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 07:37, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
We know it but Üsküdar had never become a vilayet. Takabeg (talk) 08:43, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Shkodër VilayetScutari Vilayet – per WP:COMMONNAME and Wikipedia:USEENGLISH

Scutari Vilayet and/or Vilayet of Scutari is common name like Salonica Vilayet, Monastir Vilayet etc. Takabeg (talk) 06:12, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. There are much more results on GoogleBooks search on English language for the proposed version. The same situation is with the Siege of Shkodër article which should be renamed to Siege of Scutari which also have much more GBsearch results. Wikipedia policy WP:COMMONNAME says: Wikipedia... uses the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language... Wikipedia:USEENGLISH guideline says: "The title of an article should generally use the version of the name of the subject which is most common in the English language,..." Therefore I think we should follow the request of the above mentioned wikipedia policy and guideline and rename this article to Scutari Vilayet.--Antidiskriminator (talk) 06:53, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
