Tags

[edit]

Tags are put on this page to tell me occasionally that I'm not living up to standards of what the page should be (thus far I'm the only person who's contributed, so I'll take the liberty of assuming this is a personal criticism).

The sources I've used are the only ones I know to be available, so I've taken off the tag saying I need to find reliable sources - the main source are the DVDs of the show, all of which I have in my possession, and all of which I have watched, so I can verify that the things I say about these episodes are verifiable and reliable.

The tag that says I need to "wikify" the page takes issue either with there being not enough relevant links (the page has links to the names of every star or significant guest star on the show throughout its four year run) or with the layout (I used the template provided by Wikipedia to set the layout). So I want to take that tag off as well. There is possibly one justification for the tag, which is that Soap has a different structure than many shows which have episode lists. For starters, the shows don't have titles, so I can't identify each show by its nonexistent title. Also there are usually several plots going on at once during a show - in other words, it's a soap opera, so I can't say "this is the show about X" because there are usually about 6 or 7 separate X's on a show. Consequently, my episode list has a slightly different format than other episode lists, to fit the unique dimensions of a show with no show titles and several plotlines running at once. I used the "title" box to identify the names of new characters introduced in a particular episode, because the show had a huge ensemble cast, and really the only thing that "distinguishes" one show from another besides the different plot points are these new characters. This might be handy to allow people to say "Which is the first show they had the character Carol David on?"...and for Soap fans, that would actually be a handy feature, as we all probably have our favorite characters.

Anyway, perhaps someone has some suggestions for improvement, but I think I've followed things as far as I can given the show's circumstances. Zachary Klaas (talk) 23:04, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested columnar enhancement

[edit]

This is a good and useful page; what's there is nice with the dual episode number breakdown (and the pseudo-titles - nice). Thanks for the page. A suggested enhancement follows. I'm not an editor/contributor so I'm just pointing this out for one of you that is.

Since people often don't think of episode 47, but rather, episode 22 of season 2, how about another column for "No. in season" as has been done on some other shows. It's strictly a mechanical change; no knowledge of the topic is required. Thus any of you can do this with basic arithmetic and columnar editing ability.
