  • Comment The fact that we are having this discussion illustrates the danger of using Chinese chracters in titles - not to mention it also violates WP:UE Timmyshin (talk) 22:50, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support retention of character, but a Question we had a long discussion concluding that use of the character was unavoidable given that all geographic and etymology alternatives were original research. But @Iazyges: how many surnames are there where a single simplified character represents two fanti surnames? In ictu oculi (talk) 09:37, 9 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@In ictu oculi: well from my conversational level of chinese, about a million (not really but it's a lot). Iazyges Consermonor Opus meum 13:01, 9 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@In ictu oculi: it should also be noted that in ancient times there were two kinds of surnames, one was a everyday peasant last name which translates to english roughly as "descendant surname", and the other was a nobility name that most nearly means "Clan name" in english, these should probably be differentiated, if they aren't already. Okay well I'm only aware that there's a couple of cases where two fanti surnames simplify down to the same jianti character, and my mind has gone blank to what those are. But don't object to this move from jianti to fanti. In ictu oculi (talk) 18:03, 9 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
