Not burned down in 2020?

[edit]

According to this report the sculpture has suffered little damage (so far) in 2020? JezGrove (talk) 20:45, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

JezGrove, Thanks for the update. Unfortunately, the statue and fountain have been removed. ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:47, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Expansion

[edit]

@Cedar777: Thanks for your work on this page! I'd love to see this promoted to Good status and hope this might be your ultimate goal (?) I took a few pics of the vandalized statue as well as the fountain without the statue. I will try to upload those very soon, and I also plan to take images of the removed fountain site as well. Thanks again! ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:46, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Another Believer: Excellent work with the great photos! These really help clarify where the visible damage is on the granite fountain. Very sad to see the damage but hopefully they can conserve the remainder, reinstall most of it, and replace or refinish the stones with the spalling that were directly above the fires. RACC will likely keep the public notified as there are likely many in the community who are asking where it went and when it might return. All the Best, Cedar777 (talk) 04:51, 25 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Cedar777, I'll try to take pics of the removed fountain today. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:13, 25 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I took these two today, which show the fountain removed as well:

I took these yesterday, which show the BLM memorial erected once the elk statue was removed:

Nice work with these photos! It keeps changing. Looks like this new temporary Elk is welded steel? Cheers, Cedar777 (talk) 03:24, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Cedar777, I'm hoping sourcing will allow us to update the article with details about the temporary statue and memorial. I think I saw on the news there was a pink inflatable animal here as a replacement at one point, too. ---Another Believer (Talk) 03:58, 13 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nightmare Elk stolen by member of Patriot Prayer. ---Cedar777 (talk) 01:40, 17 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Cedar777 I've just created an entry for the Nightmare Elk. I've not yet added info about the replacement statue or subsequent reappearance at a Trump rally, but there are some additional sources on the article's talk page. ---Another Believer (Talk) 04:53, 26 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 25 September 2021

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Moved to Thompson Elk Fountain. Though at first glance it appears consensus is leaning toward Thompson Elk, YBG has noted that we should add "Fountain", which TiggerJay has supported. Necrothesp's reply does not directly support Thompson Elk Fountain, but his logic does, so this seems like the best choice. Per WP:OTHEROPTIONS, if Thompson Elk is preferred, a new discussion can be opened. (closed by non-admin page mover) ASUKITE 20:38, 29 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Elk (sculpture)Thompson Elk – This one's a bit difficult because the subject has many different names. However, I believe "Thompson Elk" is the best compromise. This very recent source says the sculpture is officially known as "Elk Thompson Fountain", but the statue is not currently a fountain and there are many other sources which use other names, so I'm not sure this title should be used per COMMONNAME. Sources using "Thompson Elk" include The Oregonian, KOIN, Portland Mercury, etc. But, I admit, someone could cherrypick sources to advocate for a handful of different titles. Perhaps other editors have a more systematic way of determining the best possible title?
