"daily consumption in rats caused brain lesions consistent with Parkinson's disease"

[edit]

As I live in the Caribbean it is interesting to note that Vervet Monkeys eat Soursop daily when the fruit is in season. They do not seem to suffer any effects.

"daily consumption in rats caused brain lesions consistent with Parkinson's disease"

[edit]

Last I heard, researchers had still failed to induce an authentic Parkinsonian condition in rats because the substantia nigra in rats simply grows back. Thus, I am skeptical of the study's implication that eating guanabana on a daily basis might somehow cause Parkinson's disease in humans. I'm in Bogotá where guanabana juice practically runs like tap water. Where are the millions of shaking, twitching guanabana poisoning victims? Also: who really funded the study? -Joshua Clement Broyles —Preceding unsigned comment added by 186.28.13.140 (talk) 01:14, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Quality research should not be dismissed because of a questionable article in a pseudojournal

[edit]

Attention Wikipedia Editors: I would grant much more credence to the earlier articles in major, peer-reviewed science publications than to the glowing 2008 article in "Journal of Natural Products". Really, "Journal of Natural Products"? Do I detect pseudoscience? The detailed articles, which solidly nail down the effects of annonacin, are serious and must not be ignored. Before anyone takes the "Journal of Natural Products" as accurate to any degree, its articles, their contributors, and the funding of all involved should be vetted in depth. Until then, the way this article is written should better reflect the known quality of its references. While it is true that soursop and guanabana are widely consumed, it is also possible that some people have genetic adaptations to handle annonacin, while others do not. There is much that we do not know, but that is no reason to dismiss inconvenient truths that we do know.216.73.192.204 (talk) 22:32, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
