Summary

[edit]

This image is of an inexpensive children's walkie-talkie manufactured in China for discount toy distributor 200Toy, and is annotated to describe the individual components typical to a children's walkie-talkie. The walkie-talkie is about twice the size of the FRS-type personal walkie-talkies it's modeled after, and is powered by a 9V battery (contained in a battery compartment with a screw-in cover). The rubber duck antenna is typical of children's walkie-talkie units made since the late 1980s, replacing the earlier and easily-broken telescoping antennae that were previously common on such radios.

Unlike more sophisticated personal and commercial walkie-talkies, this unit uses a very simple discrete transistor circuit rather than the integrated circuit construction common elsewhere. Full details, including schematics and construction information, are available from the documentation for FCC Approval. (the unit is registered under FCC ID O4Y10046).

The picture was taken on a Nokia mobile phone and edited in AppleWorks 6.
