Summary

Description
English: The grave of Dean Tait's five young daughters. Archibald Campbell Tait was Dean of Carlisle Cathedral from 1849-1856. Tragedy struck the Dean and his wife Catharine in the spring of 1856, when five of their daughters contracted scarlet fever and died in the space of 5 weeks. Their ages ranged from 1 to 10 years. A son and infant daughter survived. For a closer look at part of the inscription see 1506955.

A. C. Tait went on to become Archbishop of Canterbury - for biography see Archibald_Campbell_Tait .

The grave is situated in the churchyard of St. Michael the Archangel, Stanwix, parts of which are now managed as a wildlife area.
