English: Slip rings on a hydroelectric generator. These rings carry 500 amps at around 150 volts to the rotating field winding of the generator. The graphite brushes slide on the steel ring, maintaining contact under pressure from the springs. A stranded copper wire connects each brush to the supply ciruit. Two sets of brushes and two rings are used for the field circuit.
