Purpose of use

To show a unique view as seen by the cosmonauts who approached the Salyut 7 space station for the first time after about 6 months of inactivity.

Replaceable?

The station was launched, operated and deorbited by the Soviet Union, with Russia retaining copyright to all images taken as part of the Soviet space programme. The station re-entered in 1991, and a new image depicting the station cannot be produced.
