Fair use in Faster-than-light neutrino anomaly
[edit]This image is subject to default copyright, but its use is covered by the US fair use laws, and Wikipedia's non-free content policies, because
- It is part of a preprint physics paper on arXiv
- It is integral to summarizing the individual neutrino velocity, the central result described in the version v2 of the paper.
- Alternative images of the graph do not exist (other sources, such as presentations, just copy and display these pictures). The raw data to recreate the image is not available publicly. The graph has virtually no stylistic elements; it is mostly raw data, which are not copyrightable.
- The copyrighted work has already been published on arXiv.
- The graph take up less than half a page of the 32 page article and is used only in illustrating the descriptions in the work.
- Since this is a physics paper, extracting and displaying the image here does not undermine any new or potential market for the owners of the copyright.
