DescriptionModel VR Class Hr 1 1001 Helsinki Central Station Ticket Hall 1.jpg
English: This (scale 1:10) model is situated in the ticket hall of Helsinki Central Station, and belongs to the Finnish Railway Museums collection.
The subject Pacific VR Class Hr1 locomotive number 1001. This was the first of its class of locomotive to be built and was in service 1937-1969. (Hr1 1000 had the lowest running number in the class, Nos. 1001 and 1002 were in fact built before No 1000.)
Construction of the model started in 1937 at the VR Viipuri (now Vyborg) works mechanical school. The school teacher Alfred Virento led the project. The model was almost completed just before the outbreak of the winter war on 30 November 1939. The model was packed in wooden packages and was sent to the VR Kuopio works school for storage. Then in the mid 50's it was sent to VR Hyvinkää works school.
In 1937 in the VR Viipuri works school was a mechanical student called Veikko Koistinen, who was working on the construction of the model. Later in 1958 when Veikko Koistinen was a professional mechanist at VR Hyvinkää works, he completed the model. Veikko Koistinen also restored the model in early 1990's as his last work before his retirement.
Initially in 1958 the model was situated in Tampere station, but was moved to Turku station in the early 1960's. In February 1981 the model was again moved to the Ticket Hall Helsinki Central Station.
