Cette tapisserie a été tissée à la manufacture des Gobelins d'après une tenture de Bruxelles (16e s.) aux armes du maréchal de Saint-André, elle même copiée sur une tenture Renaissance de vingt-deux pièces (brulée en 1797) ayant appartenu à François Ier.
