Summary

Description

The River Beck and the small lakes make it special. But there's already something special about most successful linear parks. And this one seems beautifully cared for.

When we visited there was plenty to see. with something new around every bend. Lots of other people enjoying themselves, so it felt calm and safe. Great kids playground as well.

Take a look at the Friends of the Park website. It includes an interesting chronology page. Which shows the history going back to the Romans; the Doomesday Book; and the 17th to 19th centuries when the area was landscaped and the lakes created.

It illustrates how luck and money play a big part in what gets loved and cherished and saved from the past. It's also an example of how the local state - represented at the time by Beckenham Council - had to step in to prevent it all being turned into "an up-market gated housing estate."
