English: Ice house, Pittenweem Pittenweem's old girnel has been given a new lease of life not as flats but as an ice house.
It stands beside beside the new fish market on the west harbour and both are owned by Fife council and run by the Fishermen's Mutual Association.
Ice is required for keeping the catch fresh whilst at sea. The ice is delivered along the Archimedes screw and down the pipe straight into the ice hold on the boat.
