Summary

Description
English: This is a heatmap showing the density of local trains and stations in Mumbai metropolitan region.

The Island City District is having the highest density of local trains and stations as it is serviced by 3 railway lines i.e. Western, Central & Harbour in a narrow land strip.

As we move out of this city region, we can see that the neighbourhoods/suburbs even within MCGM limits and also those beyond MCGM limits are serviced by only one railway line.

For instance, the Western suburbs are serviced only by Western Line while the Central burbs are serviced only by Central Line and most of the neighbourhoods of Navi Mumbai are serviced by either the Harbour or the Trans-Harbour Line.

The raster heatmap has been created in QGIS software using the local train stations as a point vector layer and number of trains per day at each station as an additional weight factor. The raw data for the entire map has been downloaded from OpenStreetMap. All editing and rendering to produce this final map has been done in QGIS software.

The stations within MCGM limits have a higher number of trains than those in the remote suburbs. The frequency of trains decreases as we go away from Mumbai.

Only those railway lines through which local trains run, are marked in this map.

Data of no. of trains at each station has been taken from Railway Websites.
