Summary

Description
English: This image was observed with the SOUP instrument at the Swedish 1-meter Solar Telescope (SST) on La Palma (Spain) and shows spicules close to the solar limb. Spicules are thin, elongated jets of a few hundred kilometers wide. They reach up to 6000 km height and can move at speeds of more than 100 km/s. Spicules are found all over the solar surface, but can be observed most easily near the limb of the Sun.The image is taken at a Doppler offset of +0.07 nm in the red wing of the H-alpha spectral line.

Instrument: Swedish 1-m Solar Telescope / Solar Optical Universal Polarimeter (SOUP) / wavelength: H-alpha red wing (656.30 + 0.07 nm)

Observation and data reduction : Oystein Langangen and Luc Rouppe van der Voort (University of Oslo, Norway)
