Description

This statue of playwright Eugene O'Neill as a child is based on an 1895 photograph by an unknown photographer of the young O'Neill writing while sitting overlooking New London's harbor. It was commissioned by George C. White and sculpted by Norman W. LeGassie for the 1988 centennial of O'Neill's birth, and was presented to the city of New London on October 16 of that year. It is located at the base of City Pier on South Water Street. (Description source: Historical marker on site)
