Summary

Description
English: A gig is one of several types of ship's boat. Usually used to transport the captain from the ship to shore or other vessels, a gig is primarily propelled by oars, though most would have sails for use when appropriate. A gig is generally narrower than the other ship's boats, so allowing greater speed for the same overall length.
