Summary

Description

Åsted Church in Frederikshavn municipality, Denmark, is situated in the middle of the parish. In the Catholic period it was dedicated to St. Nichol, patron of the wayfarers. The nave and the choir were made of tile on a footing of granite and they were built in the early 1300th century. The tower and the church porch were built in the middle ages and in the porch two human skulls are walled up near the window facing east. The chapel on the nothern side of the church was built in 1695 by the familj Arenfeldt of Knivholt, later Sæbygård. Like a fortress the site of the church is surrounded by an impressive stone wall.

  • Åsted kirke er beliggende i Åsted by, ca. 8 km vest for Frederikshavn.
